How to create a promotion?

In this manual we detail the steps on how to create promotions to apply discounts on bookings and they are displayed on the right hand side of the front of the booking engine:

Depending on the characteristics of the promotion and the type of discount to be applied, the parameters will be configured when creating a new promotion.  


How to create a promotion? (basic configuration)


To create a simple promotion, go to Inventory > Promotions / Highlights > Create new and configure the following parameters according to the type of promotion: 


  • Active: if enabled it means that the promotion is active. 

  • Visible: allows you to decide whether or not to display the promotion on the right-hand side of the front of the booking engine. 

  • Identifier: corresponds to the code you will have in our database. 

  • Name: displayed on the frontend of the booking engine, so it must be translated in all languages. 

  • Description: Clicking on a promotion on the frontend of the booking engine displays this text.  

  • Type of discount: 

    • Percentage discount: will deduct the defined percentage from the price per day of the booking. 

    • Fixed discount: the defined fixed amount per day of the booking will be deducted. 

    • Amount: enter the corresponding amount of the applicable discount.


  • See accumulation of promotions: if the promotion is not cumulative with another one, they must remain in the same group so that they deactivate each other and the one that is more beneficial to the client applies. 

  • Period

    • Stay dates (travel window): 

      • No definite date: the discount is always applied. 

      • Defined dates: applies only when bookings are made with dates of stay within this period. 

    • Booking date / time (booking window):

      • No definite date: always applies. 

      • Defined dates: applies when the booking process takes place within these specific dates. 

      • It is possible to create several rules in the same promotion.


Advanced options to create promotions according to their characteristics:


- Promotion protected by promotional code


Promotions can be protected by a promotional code and only apply when the user enters the correct code in the "Code/Coupon" box; for more details on how to set this up, please see the following link. 


- 3x2 type promotion (discount "x" nights from "n" nights)


It is possible to create a promotion that allows you to discount the amount of one (or more) nights of the total stay, this would be the 3x2, 4x3, etc. promotions. For more details on how to configure them, please consult the following link. 


- How to accumulate promotions? 


Promotions can be accumulated between them depending on the group to which they have been assigned, so that if they are configured: 


  • In the same group: these promotions cannot be accumulated, they deactivate each other and priority is given to the most beneficial for the user. 

  • In different groups: promotions can be accumulated in the same booking to offer the user a better price. You will find more details on how to configure these promotions in this link. 


- How to apply the promotion in different periods?


Promotions can be applied to a broad period of time and subsequently restricted to specific days. More details on this configuration option can be found at the following link.


- How to apply restrictions on the application of the promotion?


Promotions may have application restrictions depending on the availability search carried out by the client.

In the event that the promotion should always apply regardless of the parameters listed below, it will not be necessary to configure this section.


Configure only when you want to apply special restrictions, such as:


  • Minimum stay (nights): useful for "Long stay" type promotions. Check the box and enter the minimum number of nights that the client must book to benefit from the discount.

  • Maximum stay (nights): useful for promotions that apply to short stays or when you want to create several long stay promotions with different minimum/maximum stays. Check the box and enter the maximum number of nights the client must book to benefit from the discount.

  • Minimum advance booking (days): useful for "Advance booking" type promotions. Check the box and enter the minimum number of days prior to check-in that the client must book in order to benefit from the discount.

  • Maximum anticipation (days): useful for "Last minute" type promotions. Activate the checkbox and enter the maximum number of days prior to check-in that the client must book in order to benefit from the discount.


- Promotion according to country or countries


Promotions may apply depending on the country where the query is made. You will find more details on how to configure them in the manual below: link  


- Promotion according to device


It is possible to create a promotion according to the type of device the customer is using at the time of the search. By following the instructions in the following manual, this type of promotion can be configured: link
