Management of tourist taxes and fees in the booking engine

Modified on Mon, 14 Apr at 3:26 PM

As you may know, we can differentiate through our booking engine the taxes and tourist fees that the guest will have to pay.

Taxes are mandatory charges imposed by government authorities, whether at the local, state or national level. Tourist taxes are specific charges applied to tourist services and are often imposed by local authorities. These taxes are used to finance tourism projects, destination promotion, maintenance of tourism infrastructure and other tourism-related services.

Within the Witbooking Back Office, we can find two separate managers to manage these amounts.

TAXES: to access this, go to parameterization > taxes.

Taxes can only be created by percentage type.

We can create different taxes by restrictions. That is to say, for certain months apply a tax rate and for other months a different percentage.

If two or more taxes coincide in time periods, all taxes will be added together and will show the total amount in the booking engine.

E.g. If we have a 10% lodging tax and an 8% environmental tax, it will show a total of 18% tax in the booking engine.

TOURIST RATES: to access, we have to go to parameterization > rates.

You can create as many rates as necessary, and create these rates with restrictions.

If a customer's search coincides with two different rate periods, it will always send the tourist rate that is being applied on the day of check-in.

E.g. A customer makes a search from 12/29/2024 to 01/04/2025, in this case the booking engine will apply the tourist rate of the course 2024, since the check in was in 2024.

Modalities:

  • Per person
  • Per person / night
  • Per accommodation
  • Per accommodation / night
  • Percentage
  • Balearic Modality

The fee may be limited to a minimum age, a maximum number of nights or a maximum amount of fees to be paid, for those cities where only adults must pay, for example, or up to a maximum of 5 nights, after the sixth night the fee would no longer be payable.

Display in the booking engine:

The following countries: United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, will see during the booking process that taxes are not included in the price, and will only see the updated price at the moment of confirming the booking.

Both step 1 and step 2 will indicate that taxes are included and taxes are not included, marking at all times the name that is configured in each rate, along with its configuration, e.g., €6 per person/night:

In the case of step 3, when the customer is going to finalize the reservation, he/she will be able to see a breakdown of each of the taxes and fees that he/she will be paying, and at this point the excluded countries (mentioned above) will start to see the information:

Finally, the client will be able to see in the confirmation email and in the booking confirmation the information of the fees and taxes:
