Split Stay

Modified on Wed, 30 Oct, 2024 at 11:49 AM

A split stay allows offering accommodation that includes a change of lodging during the reservation period. This option is particularly designed for situations where continuous availability in a single type of lodging is not possible, but the stay can be completed with a room change.

Practical example:

Let’s say we search for a stay from July 1st to July 8th, 7 nights for 2 adults.

The booking engine cannot accommodate the entire stay in one room, but offers the option of a split stay as follows:

  • From July 1st to July 5th → Superior Room
  • From July 5th to July 8th → Junior Suite

How to enable Split Stay in your booking engine?

  1. Go to Settings > Behavior > Result List Configuration.

  2. There, you will find a dropdown menu with 4 options for split stay:

  • Do not show (default option): Split stay options will not be offered under any circumstances.
  • When there is no availability - show the cheapest option: If the engine does not find availability for the entire stay in a single type of lodging, it will offer the cheapest split stay option.
  • When there is no availability - show all options: Similar to the previous option, but it will show up to 5 split stay options, if available.
  • When there is availability - show the cheapest option: Even if there is availability in a single lodging, if a cheaper split stay option exists, it will also be offered.
  • When availability exists – only offer split stays if there are no more affordable accommodations available. In this case, DO NOT offer split stays if the booking engine is configured to avoid this option when a more economical non-split stay is available.

Important Considerations:

  1. Single room change: Only one room change is allowed per stay.

  2. Restrictions: The restrictions of the inventory lines involved in the room change will be respected. Only rates that meet these restrictions will be offered.

  3. Price: In the first booking stage (Step 1), the price shown will be the sum of both rooms, divided by the number of nights.

  4. Listing Order: Split stay options will be displayed according to the price order or the order set in the listing of lodging types. If the behavior setting is "by position in the lodging type listing," the order of the first room will determine its position in the listing.

  5. Assisted booking: The assisted booking flow will be reused. However, when selecting a split stay, it will filter so that when clicking on VIEW RATES, it will open Step 2: inventory_selection.

  6. Multiple reservation: The reservation will be registered as a multiple reservation with an "M" and two "P" identifiers. This allows partial cancellation if necessary.

  7. Duplicated extras: If both rooms have mandatory extras (such as dinners or fees), they will be duplicated on the invoice.

Example:

  • Double Room from October 1st to 3rd has a mandatory extra "Gastro Dinner €25" per person (€50 in total).
  • Superior Room from October 3rd to 5th also has the "Gastro Dinner €25" extra (€50 in total).

In this case, the engine will act as if it were a booking for 4 people instead of 2, duplicating the charge for the extras.

How is it displayed on the booking engine’s frontend?

On the booking engine's frontend, the split stay option will be reflected in the search results, showing the room change details clearly for the customer. Additionally, the customer will see a breakdown of the rooms and the corresponding dates for each, along with the rates and applied extras.
